Chassis:
This Jean Bugatti-styled, Gangloff-built Aravis Cabriolet was sold new to famous racing driver Maurice Trintingant. It was finished in the typical two-tone paint-scheme specified by Jean Bugatti for many of the Type 57s he styled. Trintignant sold the car in 1947 and in 1962 it passed into the hands of long-term American owner Rudy van Daalen Wetters. From his collection, chassis 57768 was eventually bought by Peter Mullin in 2002. With the help of Trintignant, who was still alive and very sharp at the time, the rare Bugatti was restored to its original configuration. It was shown at a variety of events and then displayed in the fabulous Mullin Automotive Museum. Following Mullin’s passing in 2023, the Bugatti was consigned to a dedicated Gooding auction with a large portion of the museum collection.
